The benefits of the Ovulation blood test

1

Understand hormonal changes and its influence in the luteal phase

The luteal phase occurs after ovulation and supports early pregnancy. Testing progesterone and estradiol after ovulation helps to identify hormonal imbalances (such as a progesterone deficiency) that can lead to irregular cycles, PMS symptoms and fertility problems, and ultimately affect overall reproductive health.

2

Monitor progesterone levels to assess pregnancy viability and support early pregnancy

Monitoring progesterone during the luteal phase is essential for successful implantation and early pregnancy. Low levels may signal an insufficient luteal phase, leading to implantation issues or miscarriage. Tracking these hormones helps identify and address potential problems affecting conception or pregnancy maintenance.

What biomarkers are tested?

Estradiol

It is the most important female sex hormone and is produced by the ovaries. It plays a central role in ovulation and other key functions, including maintaining bone and vascular health.

Progesterone

Progesterone, a key female hormone, prepares the uterus for pregnancy, regulates the menstrual cycle, and plays a vital role in fertility and menopause.

What does the hormone consultation include?

1

Recording your personal history and setting goals

We start by taking a joint look at your female health, your personal cycle and any associated symptoms. It is also a time to discuss your goals and expectations.

2

Detailed review and step-by-step explanation of your results

The focus is on your oestradiol and progesterone levels in the luteal phase and how their interaction can be represented in your symptoms. These two hormones also provide information on whether ovulation has taken place and how the hormones behave in the late phase of your cycle.

3

Medical advice with a focus on lifestyle, well-being and family planning

Receive specific advice on optimizing hormonal balance and reducing symptoms, ideal for understanding the female cycle and fertility. If needed, the desire for children can also be discussed in detail, with referrals to specialized centers.

What to consider before booking

Make sure that you are not using hormonal contraception and that you have had two normal menstrual cycles

Hormonal contraception can alter the natural levels of the hormones, interfere with accurate result interpretation, and prevent a proper diagnosis of reproductive and endocrine health issues.

The blood sample must be taken around day 21 of the menstrual cycle

This applies to regular 28-day cycles. For other cycles: cycle length minus 7 days (+/- 1 day). The first day of the cycle is the day on which bleeding begins normally (no spotting).
